what is the texture like?

super smooth. although the aesthetic depth of the clay body can give off the appearance of possibly being coarse or unfinished, the finished surface texture is quite the opposite. we finish sand every single piece, inside and out, with 1000 grit sanding sponges [an extremely fine finishing grit]. as a result, your pieces will have a lovely textured look, but will nonetheless be silky smooth to the touch. this is also part of what makes our pieces so easy to clean.

what is your return + exchange policy?

we do accept returns and exchanges. we're pretty sure you're going to fall in love with the look and feel of our pieces :) - but, the last thing we want is for you to be stuck with work you're not over the moon with. we just ask that you contact us shortly after delivery to let us know and send the pieces back in the same condition you received them in. we'll handle the rest! more details on shipping, returns, and exchanges via our policies page.

are they dishwasher / microwave safe?

yes, both our clay body and seal coat materials are entirely microwave, dishwasher, freezer, stovetop, and oven safe and have been extensively tested as such in both low traffic [residential] and high traffic [commercial] environments. learn more via our studio page.

are they difficult to clean?

our work will likely be the lowest maintenance pieces in your kitchen. the clay body is sanded to a smooth easy to wipe and dry finish, and our seal coat is both hydrophobic [repels water, which tends to simply bead up and roll off of the surface] and oleophobic [oil and grease resistant] and do not collect particles, preventing caking, smudging, etc. nearly every substance you'll expose them to will simply come off with a light water rinse.

how long will they last?

our premium stoneware clay body is incredibly durable, making it chip, scratch, and shatter resistant. we trial breakage resistance by dropping test pieces from bar, counter, and table height onto the solid concrete slab of our production floor - it typically takes at least 2 drops before the clay body begins to fracture from table height. additionally our nanotechnology based seal coat is highly abrasion resistant and, since it actually permeates and settles into the pores of the vitrified clay body [instead of sitting on top of it like a traditional glaze], it will never chip, crack, or peel. our seal coat is currently being tested in high traffic commercial environments where these test pieces have performed reislliently since 2014 with no reported functional deficiencies. in a standard residential environment with exposure to only a fraction of the usage of a high traffic commercial setting, decades of use can be expected.

what is nano coat?

nano coat is a modern, sustainable, nanotechnology based alternative to traditional ceramic glazes made from SiO2 [Silicon Dioxide/Silica], a naturally occurring oxide and one of the most abundant minerals found in the Earth’s crust, most commonly in the form of Quartz. all ceramic clay bodies require a seal coat to protect against absorbing foods and liquids into their pores which would otherwise cause functional as well as health and safety issues. nanocoat, essentially, features all of the upsides of traditional glazes with none of the downsides. you can learn more by check out our studio page.

are they safe and sustainable?

absolutely, both our clay body and seal coat are certified safe for direct food contact by stringent EU and US FDA safety standards. did you know many traditional glazes contain toxic compounds like lead, chromium oxide, nickel oxide, and barium carbonate. and, too often manufactures do not disclose their glaze or clay body ingredients to the public. nano coat, however, is made of silica, one of Earth's safest and most abundant minerals which is exactly why we use it. learn more via our studio page.

where and how are they made?

the Anthropo team crafts every single piece, by hand, in our Houston-based design and production facility. we combine a timeless production technique called "slip casting" which ensures consistency of our production process. but, by trimming, cleaning, sanding, and dipping every single piece by hand, our work retains a timeless handcrafted aesthetic rendering each and every piece truly one of a kind.
